2022 AAAM|EMP Internship Application

Through a generous award provided by the Institute of Museums and Library Services, the Association of African American Museums is pleased to announce the AAAM|EMP Internship.  Funding through the IMLS was given to assist the association with advancing AAAM's  HBCU and Emerging Museum Professionals  initiatives.

 ~ Six Paid Internships - $15,000 

Positions for consideration:

* Special Projects Intern - Internship within the AAAM Office (1)

* Internships within AAAM Institutional Member Host Sites (5)

~ 10 -12 week 

 ~ One-Year AAAM Membership 

~ 2023 Conference Registration, Lodging, Travel, Per Diem

REQUIREMENTS (all items must be uploaded and submitted through the portal):

~ Narrative Question:

Please describe how your internship participation and conference participation will enhance your overall career goals in the museum field. Please include professional development experience(s) in a museum or museum-related areas (include special courses, workshops, etc.). Please also indicate how your career path and goals coincide with the vision that Margaret Burroughs and Charles Wright had for the Association of African American Museums.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 15, 2022 (11:59 pm CST)


The grant is not limited to HBCU students, all students and emerging museum professionals may apply and will be considered.  

Positions at Host Sites are TBD based on the need of the site and the interest of each prospective selected applicant.
